Fallschirmjaeger Mortars

This is an Artizan Designs set that I picked up on sale somewhere. The base is a 50 mm one and I have these mounted for use in SotTR by Westwind. The paints I used were a mixture of Reaper MSP, GW, and Vallejo Game and Model. What I tried to do was match the camoflague that is shown in the Diving Eagles supplement by Battlefront. This supplement is no longer in print but I did keep one to use as a reference. The log to the front of the position is made from green stuff.
I also have the following to flesh out this team: ![]()
25 Riflemen
2 LMGs
2 HMGs
2 PanzerSchrek crews
4 SMGs
3 with Asslt Rifles
2 Paras with MP
5 Para Officers
For those of you who look at this site to see what I have done for OSW I say, "Fear Not," for as soon as I can get unpacked I will start on those figures again.
Priest for La Bandera

The queen has always been solicitous of the welfare of her soldiery, both in temporal and spiritual terms. She has assigned each regiment a father confessor whose work load varies based upon the qualities of the regiment!
This is Father Francisco, a Foundry figure if I am not mistaken. He is currently attached to La Bandera de la Reina. Unlike others of his ilk, he takes his profession seriously and carries with him the Queen’s Libro de Mandamientos (Book of Commandments).

Zombies redux

The first zombie reminds me of the Zombiesmith banner. I love the way you can angle/tilt the heads in the Separate Head System (SHS)to add personality. It’s obvious that this guy’s body was in the latter stages of decomposition when he was raised given the way his neck is bent!

The next figure is an officer figure. In SotTR I will probably use him as a Zombie controller, a smart zombie that has some mental abilities and can control other zombies to a small extent. I love the coat on this guy and again you can put any one of a number of heads on him using the SHS.

Afrika Korps Zombie

I chose to do this one in an Afrika Korps color scheme as he will hopefully be in a group shot in the upcoming rulebook Only 15 more to paint (but, see below)! Comments, as always,
appreciated. He was pretty easy to paint as long as you are not trying to struggle too much with what zombie skin should look like!
(Enjoy the pictures, BTW, I have to redo this guy. I
grabbed a can of Testor’s Panzer Grey instead of Dullcote and now the
front of the zombie is darker than the back. Normally I do a test spray
before I commit but my painting area is not fully setup yet and so I
skipped a step… much to my irritation!) Here he is in his new habitat!

I see dead people….
The horde to the left is essentially four packs of the Zombies which you can purchase off of the Westwind website. I plan on painting these in Afrika Korps style uniforms so there will be a lot of greens and tans in the mix. Note that the bases used for thegame are the ones with the rounded edges. I think this was a good game decision as there is a lot that can be done with this type of base.
The figures to the left are some of my favorites from the group of 16. The figure in the center is an officer and is holding a femur in his hand as a baton/pointer. He is mounted on a small outcrop of green stuff to make him stand out from the crowd (as if the hat wasn’t a good enough indicator!) The rest of the basing materials are kitty litter for the larger rocks, parakeet gravel for the smaller, and some Woodland Scenics ballast.
The guy in the center is a hoot when seen up close. I forgot to mention that these miniatures are a part of a line using the Separate Head System (SHS) which provides gamers with the ability to customize their figures.
The heads on these, for example, could be swapped out with the ones in the previous photos to make a more varied unit. Now the question I have is, what does a Zombie need with a knife? Is it just stuck to his hand because he’s.. well… gooey? Or is there some other reason (bad teeth so he needs to cut up his victims?
And another close-up shot of some of the grizzled veterans! The one on the right is another of my favorites. The nice thing about the SHS is that you can put the heads on at an angle and make them look more horrid! (Does anyone think it’s odd to be talking about which zombie is my favorite? Is that just a weird wargamer thing?) I’ll post progress shots as I get paint on them.

Population generator
The idea here is to enter a few items about the setting you desire and punch a "go" button to get the numbers. There is a downloadable version one can get and use. (I don’t know if it can be used on one’s website but I imagine it is as it was released under the Creative Commons License. Visit the site and give it a try and then come back and let me know what you think.

Army Painting Exchange
Some miniatures are to game with, some to look at. I wanted these to be the former. I mounted the cowboys on round GW 25mm bases as suggested in Legends of the Old West (LoTW). In their base, I placed a couple of magnets (<ad alert> I sell these at my store which will be reopening after XMas – http://www.Wizards-Workshop.com</ad alert>). These are terrific magnets and work well as mounting pieces or for holding arms and such on to systems you want to give the ability to swap out.
Here’s a picture of the look of the diorama. The bottom piece is just a square of Airplane plywood that I got from Litko for another project. I used Reaper Master Series Paints on these and I can’t sing their praise highly enough! Drat, one of the things I *did* forget wsa to enter these into my painting journal. Derek Schubert suggests that you record paint colors, techniques, etc. in a journal so that if you have to come back to a miniature or do another, you’ll have a reference as to what worked and what didn’t!
I have posted some of the pictures of the individual miniatures below. The Cowboy is meant to be an old timer – a veteran of the Civil War. The Kid is an upstart and I like the way they sculpted the face on him, as if he’s ready to get started!
I used Liquitex Resin Gel on the bases, GF9 scatter grass and Woodland Scenics Clump Foliage. The gel is not my preferred basing material, I like parakeet grass better but the gel dries fairly quickly. The gravel gives a nice rough texture that dry brushes better.
The final diorama is shown in more pictures below.
